July 17 White Sox vs. Blue Jays Prediction, Odds and Best Bets
After a thrilling All-Star break, and a one-off game Thursday, the 2026 Major League Baseball season begins the second half for real.
The Chicago White Sox (50-45) and the Toronto Blue Jays (45-51) begin a three-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, and the first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET. The game can be viewed and/or streamed on Apple TV.
The White Sox rolled into the break in a tie with the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central, as Chicago has been one of the biggest surprises of the first half. 3B Miguel Vargas swatted a solo home run for the AL in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, while 1B Munetaka Murakami and RF Tristan Peters struck out in their only at-bats.
The Blue Jays were managed by John Schneider in the mid-summer classic, but that isn’t likely to be the case in 2027, as Toronto finds itself in last place in the AL East, 12 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Toronto is expected to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline, too. RHP Dylan Cease isn’t going anywhere, though. He started the ASG, striking out the side in a scoreless frame while earning the win. CL Louis Varland threw a scoreless inning, too, while 2B Ernie Clement was hitless in two at-bats, although he did have a great defensive play before he was subbed out.
Chicago swept a three-game series at Rate Field back on April 3-5, winning all three games as an underdog. The White Sox have won four in a row in the series, too, while going 6-3 across the past nine meetings. The Over is 2-1 in the first three meetings.
The White Sox go with LHP Anthony Kay (6-4, 4.23 ERA, 1.38 WHIP), and in and of itself, those aren’t terrible numbers. But, Kay is 1-2 with a 5.94 ERA across 36 ⅓ IP across eight road starts, and teams are hitting .254 against him, while he has surrendered eight homers in the span.
For the Blue Jays, rookie RHP Spencer Miles (4-1, 2.85 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) takes the ball, and he is making his fourth start and 27th appearance. He has racked up 57 strikeouts across 60 IP, while surrendering just four homers to date.
Miles is also an impressive 4-0 with a 2.36 ERA across 34 ⅓ IP in one start and 13 relief appearances at home, and teams are hitting just .164 against him at Rogers Centre. Miles has walked just eight batters, while striking out 36 at home, too. In July, Miles is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in one start and two relief showings across 9 IP. He appeared in relief against the Pale Hose back on April 5, allowing two hits with two strikeouts in just his third MLB appearance, and first outing on the road.
While Chicago has been surprising, it is just 19-28 on the road, and it is just 6-12 against the AL East. Toronto is 24-25 at home, while it is 7-9 against the AL Central. While the trends seem to point to a very close game, Kay’s struggles on the road, and Toronto’s 14-9 record this season vs. LHP has us backing the BLUE JAYS (-136) as moderate favorites. And, if you’re looking for a same-game parlay (SGP), going OVER 8.5 (-112) is worth playing Friday, as well.
